"Highly recommend. They sprayed inside and out for spiders and ants. Super professional, explained everything, and ensured it was safe for our dog before leaving."
"Had a massive roach problem in our rental. The technician used gels in the kitchen and sprayed the perimeter. It's been 4 months and we haven't seen a single bug since."
"Great price and awesome service. They even checked a loose tile on the roof while dusting the cavity. That Handyman aspect is a huge bonus."
Flies Are More Dangerous Than Most People Realise
A fly infestation is not just unpleasant — it is a serious health hazard. The World Health Organisation links flies to the transmission of over 65 diseases, including salmonella, E. coli, typhoid fever, cholera, and dysentery. Flies land on faeces, animal carcasses, and rotting waste, then walk directly across your kitchen bench, food, and utensils — transferring bacteria with every step.
Maggots are the larval stage of flies and their presence always signals an active breeding source somewhere on or near your property. Left untreated, a single breeding site can produce hundreds of adult flies within days. The critical mistake most people make is treating the flies they can see rather than finding where they are breeding. Spraying adult flies provides temporary relief but does nothing to the egg and larval cycle already underway.
At Good Guys Pest Control, we start by locating the breeding source — whether that’s a bin room, drain, concealed carcass, or organic waste buildup — and eliminate it before applying residual treatment to prevent re-infestation.
Our 3-Step Fly & Maggot Elimination Process
1. Breeding Source Inspection
We conduct a thorough inspection of your property to locate every active breeding site. This includes checking bin areas, drains, sub-floors, roof voids, garden waste, compost zones, and any areas of concealed organic matter. Identifying and eliminating the breeding source is the only way to achieve lasting fly control — without it, adult flies will continue to emerge regardless of how many times the visible infestation is sprayed.
2. Targeted Treatment
We apply the appropriate treatment to each identified zone — residual insecticide spray to fly harbourage areas and surfaces, insecticidal dust to void spaces, and larvicide treatment to drain and waste areas where maggot activity is present. For active maggot infestations, we treat the source material directly to eliminate larvae before they pupate and emerge as a new generation of adult flies.
3. Handyman Exclusion & Prevention
Unlike standard pest controllers, we are also licensed handymen. We seal the gaps around drain covers, broken weatherstripping, damaged flyscreens, and service access points that flies are using to enter your property — closing off the entry routes that bring them back after every treatment.
The Melbourne Fly Species We Treat
Different fly species breed in different locations and require different treatment approaches. Identifying the species correctly is the first step to finding and eliminating the breeding source.
House Fly
The most common fly species in Melbourne homes and businesses. House flies breed prolifically in garbage bins, uncovered compost, pet faeces, and any accumulation of damp organic waste. A female house fly can lay up to 500 eggs in her lifetime and a new generation can emerge in as little as seven to ten days in Melbourne's warm summer conditions.
They are the primary carrier of food-borne bacteria in domestic environments, transferring pathogens every time they land on food preparation surfaces, utensils, and exposed food.
Our Solution: Residual spray to all internal and external surfaces where house flies rest, combined with larvicide treatment to bin areas and drain surrounds. Breeding material is identified and we advise on immediate removal to break the reproductive cycle.
Blowfly
Large, metallic blue or green, and the species most commonly responsible for maggot infestations in Melbourne homes. Blowflies are attracted to decomposing animal matter — a dead rat or possum in the roof void, sub-floor, or wall cavity is the most common cause of a sudden, severe maggot infestation inside a property.
They can smell a carcass from several kilometres away and will locate and breed on it within hours. A large blowfly breeding event can produce thousands of maggots from a single source.
Our Solution: Locate and remove the carcass where accessible, treat the site with residual insecticide and deodorising agent, and apply maggot treatment to all affected surfaces. As licensed handymen, we can also access and seal the entry point the animal used to enter the roof or sub-floor void.
Fruit Fly
Tiny, reddish-brown, and a persistent problem in Melbourne kitchens, cafes, and commercial food environments — especially through summer and autumn. Fruit flies breed inside overripe or rotting fruit, fermenting residue in drains, mop buckets, and damp bin liners.
They are extremely fast breeders and a small number can become a full-blown infestation within a week if the breeding source is not removed.
Our Solution: Identification and elimination of fermentation breeding sources, drain treatment with enzyme-based larvicide, and residual surface spray to resting zones. For commercial kitchens, we use food-safe products approved for use in food preparation environments.
Drain Fly
Small, moth-like flies with fuzzy wings that breed inside the organic sludge that lines slow or stagnant drains. Drain flies are a common complaint in Melbourne bathrooms, laundries, and commercial kitchen floor drains. They emerge from the drain at night and are frequently mistaken for moths.
A drain fly infestation almost always indicates a drain that is partially blocked, slow-flowing, or has not been cleaned in an extended period.
Our Solution: Enzyme-based drain treatment to break down the organic sludge lining the drain interior where larvae breed, combined with residual spray to adult resting surfaces. We also identify and report any drainage issues contributing to the infestation.
Note: If you are experiencing a sudden, severe maggot infestation indoors, the most likely cause is a dead animal concealed in the roof void, wall cavity, or sub-floor. Do not attempt to treat the maggots alone without locating the source — the infestation will return within days. Call us for an urgent inspection.
What’s Included In Our Fly & Maggot Treatment?
We leave nothing to chance. A standard Good Guys Fly & Maggot Treatment covers the entire property — every zone where flies are breeding, resting, or entering.
Inside The Home
Residual spray to all kitchen surfaces, window frames, and door seals where flies rest, combined with enzyme drain treatment for fruit fly and drain fly activity in sink and floor drains.
Direct larvicide treatment to active maggot sites including bin areas, drain surrounds, and any organic waste accumulation. Where a carcass is the source, we locate, remove where accessible, and treat the site with residual insecticide and deodoriser.
For unexplained or sudden indoor blowfly and maggot activity, we inspect the roof void and sub-floor for concealed carcasses — the most commonly missed breeding source in Melbourne homes.
Residual insecticide spray applied to internal wall surfaces, cornices, window frames, and light fittings where adult flies congregate and rest between feeding.
Outside The Home
Treatment of bin surrounds, bin enclosures, and external waste areas with residual spray and larvicide — the primary breeding zone for house flies and blowflies on Melbourne residential and commercial properties.
Residual spray to external walls, eaves, window frames, and door surrounds to create a treated barrier that kills flies resting on the building exterior before they move inside.
Treatment of compost bins, garden waste areas, and pet faeces zones where house flies breed. We advise on waste management and composting practices that reduce fly attraction to the property.
As licensed handymen, we repair and seal damaged flyscreens, gaps under doors, broken weatherstripping, and any structural entry points flies are actively using — a step no standard pest controller provides.
