What is solar panel bird proofing?
Solar panel bird proofing closes the open gap between the edge of your panels and the roof, so pigeons cannot get underneath to nest. We clean out what is already under there, treat it for mites, then fit a black mesh skirt around the whole array. The mesh is held by clips that hook the panel frame, so nothing is drilled into your panels.
The space under a panel is dry, shaded and out of reach of hawks, which is why pigeons love it. Once one pair nests there, more follow, and within a year the gutters are full of twigs and droppings. Solar panel bird proofing Melbourne homes early keeps the clean up small and the roof in good shape.
People also search for solar panel bird mesh, bird mesh solar panels or pigeon proofing solar panels. It is the same job: a full clean out, then a snug mesh skirt around the array, backed by our 2 year guarantee.
Our mesh and clip work carries a 2 year guarantee. The panels themselves are not drilled or glued.

Signs pigeons are nesting under your solar panels
Pigeons under solar panels tend to show up in the same few ways. If you see two or more of these, there is almost certainly a nest.
Cooing from first light
The panels sit right over the bedrooms, and the cooing and scratching starts before the alarm goes off.
Twigs poking out the edges
Sticks and feathers showing between the panel edge and the tiles, often on the lower side.
Droppings on the panels and paths
White streaks on the glass, the gutter and the driveway under the roof edge.
Blocked gutters and downpipes
Nest material washes into the gutter, so it overflows in the next heavy rain.
Itchy bites inside
Bird mites from the nests can drop through gaps in the ceiling into the rooms below.
Pigeons sitting on the ridge
A small group always perched on your roof near the panels, even when the street is quiet.
Pigeon proofing by a crew that also fixes roofs
Meshing panels is only half the job. What sits under them, and what the pigeons have done to the roof, matters just as much.
A quick mesh job
Mesh goes on over whatever is already under the panels.
- Nests and droppings left under the panels
- Mesh fixed with screws or glue
- No treatment for mites under the array
- Cracked tiles and blocked gutters ignored
- Loose mesh that gaps at the corners
Good Guys, pest control plus handyman
The roof under the panels is cleaned, checked and then closed.
- Full cleanout of nests, eggs, droppings and dead birds
- Mite and lice treatment on the roof under the panels
- Non penetrating clips on the panel frame, never drilled
- Mesh cut to your tile profile so there are no gaps at the curves
- Slipped tiles and gutters fixed while we are up there

The cleanout under your solar panels
Putting mesh over an active nest traps eggs and chicks, and a dead bird under the panels is a smell and a fly problem nobody wants. So every job starts underneath. We reach in from each side of the array, pull out the nest material, scrape off hardened droppings and bag the lot, including any birds that have died there.
The roof surface under the panels is then treated for mites and lice, and we clear the gutters and downpipes the nests have been washing into. If we find dead birds that have been there a while, we treat the spot for odour as well, the same way our dead animal removal crew would.
- Nests and eggs removed
- Droppings scraped and bagged
- Dead birds taken away
- Mites and lice treated
- Gutters cleared
- Downpipes checked

How our pigeon mesh is fitted to the panels
Our solar panel mesh is galvanised steel wire with a black coating, so it does not rust and is hard to see from the street. It is cut in lengths to run around the outside of the array, and the bottom edge is trimmed to follow the shape of your tiles or metal sheeting so there is no gap at the curves for a pigeon to push through.
The top edge is held by non penetrating clips that hook onto the lip under the panel frame. There are no screws, no glue and no new holes in the panels or the roof. Air still moves freely under the panels, which they need to stay cool, and leaves and small debris still wash out with the rain.
- Black coated galvanised mesh
- Cut to the tile or sheet profile
- Clips on the frame lip
- No screws or glue
- Airflow kept under panels
- Corners closed neatly
Pigeons under solar panels? Do not spray under them with a hose.
Water forced under panels can reach the cabling, and wet droppings spread further across the roof. Leave the panels alone and let us clean them out dry and safely.
Bird proofing solar panels in four steps

Every array is different, so solar panel bird proofing is quoted for free. These are the three jobs we price most often.

Up to about ten panels on a single storey roof, with a light clean out.

Family home array
A typical suburban system with nests to clear and gutters to clean.

Large or double storey
Bigger systems, steep roofs or heavy build ups that need more time and gear.

What changes the price of pigeon proofing
- Number of panels. The mesh runs around the outside edge, so the size and shape of the array sets the length.
- Roof height and pitch. Double storey and steep roofs need more height safety gear and setup time.
- How long the pigeons have been there. Years of nests and droppings take longer to clear than a new nest.
- Split arrays. Panels spread over several roof faces need more corners closed.
- Repairs. Cracked tiles, lifted flashing or damaged gutters are priced and approved before we fix them.
Our 2 year solar panel guarantee and how we protect your panels
The two questions we hear most are about the guarantee and about damage to the panels. Here are the straight answers.
The 2 year guarantee
Our mesh and clip installation comes with a 2 year guarantee, written on your job sheet.
If the mesh comes loose or a pigeon gets back under the panels through our installation in that time, we come back and fix it at no charge.
Nothing drilled into the panels
Non penetrating clips hook onto the underside of the panel frame. We do not drill, screw or glue anything to the panels.
Our crew is licensed and insured and works to height safety rules on every roof, with harnesses where the roof calls for it.

Your solar panel bird proofing questions
The guarantee, the clips, the clean up and the cost. If yours is not here, ring us.
How much does solar panel bird proofing cost?
It depends on the number of panels, the height of the roof and how much mess is underneath. We give you a free written quote first, usually from a photo and the panel count.
Will the mesh affect my solar panels?
No. The clips hook onto the lip under the frame and nothing is drilled, screwed or glued to the panels. Air still flows underneath so the panels can stay cool.
Do you clean under the panels first?
Always. Nests, eggs, droppings and dead birds come out before any mesh goes on, and the area is treated for mites. See the cleanout.
What does the 2 year guarantee cover?
It covers our installation. If the mesh or clips fail, or pigeons get back under through our work within 2 years, we come back and fix it at no charge.
Can pigeons get through the mesh?
Not through galvanised mesh fitted snug to the tiles. Where they sometimes try is a corner or a gap at the tile curve, which is why we trim the bottom edge to the roof profile.
Is pigeon control just the mesh?
For panels, the mesh does most of the work. If pigeons are also sitting on ledges, balconies or gutters, our bird nest removal and bird control crew can fit spikes or netting as well.
Do you do pigeon removal as well?
We remove the nests, eggs and any dead birds, and the mesh keeps the pigeons from getting back under. The adult birds move on once their nest site is closed.
Will the mesh stop possums and rats too?
It closes the gap under the panels to them as well. If a possum is already living in the roof, our possum removal service gets it out first.
Can you mesh panels on a metal roof?
Yes. The bottom edge of the mesh is shaped to the corrugations on metal roofs the same way it is shaped to tiles.
How long does the job take?
Most homes are cleaned out and meshed in one visit. Very large arrays or years of build up can take a second day.
